May 7, 2011

Arrived home about 2:30pm Friday May 6.  left Ocala on Sunday May 1, heading to Graham, NC to visit grandson Ryan.  Great to see him and mom Mitz. Stayed a couple of days.  Ryan now in college.  Wow, does time fly.

Trip back was pretty uneventful and the coach ran great.  Weather pretty good, some fog, rain, and cold, but nothing to hinder our travel.  Lots of flood water in Indiana.

Arriving home felt good, always nice to be back.  Everything in the house was fine, thanks to our friends the Whitesides for doing the occasional check.  Didn't take long to get settled in.  But a little overwhelmed to think of preparing for sale.

Don't forget to keep us in mind with interested parties.  Visit our house web site below:

Great to be home!!

May 1, 2001

Another month gone.  Soon we will be heading home.  But first, what happened last month.

Pochojka Condo View

Took another trip over to Daytona Beach to visit Ken and Jeannett Pochojka,  Played golf and they treated us to a marvelous steak dinner.  Ocean front weather was perfect.

Meier Kayak
Talked Paul & Patty Meier into spending a day with us on the Silver Springs River.  Lunch at Tommy's BBQ then hit the water.  Bob and the two girls in the dingy and Paul in a kayak.  Paul proved to be a seasoned kayaker, paddling the full 4 mile trip with an occassional tow for a breather.  Weather was perfect.  Lot's of gators and turtles, but no monkeys today.  Back to the coach for happy hour and cook out.  A really nice day with good friends.

Salt Springs Deer
Salt Springs
Shari and I took a self guided road trip over to Salt Springs just for a look see.  Nice day, but warm.  The springs provided great snorkeling adventure and wild life viewing. On the way back we took in a true Indian Pow Wow!  Chambers Farm Event, we think an inter-tribal event. Lots of dancing, drumming, and special ceremonies, and culture wares for sale.  An annual event.  Fun!
Pow Wow

Shari Baseline Golf Course
Bob continued with the mens Thursday golf and Shari connected with some ladies on Monday's.  Snowbirds beginning to head back so group is sparse.  Last Thursday golfed with Shari and Carol and Bobs friend Dan. Played Baseline, a lovely executive course.

Rainbow Kayak Trip
Upgraded Accommodations
Shari and I finally got over to kayak the Rainbow Springs River, contracting a shuttle service so we could do downstream to our car.  Took us a full two hours and it was beautiful.  Had a great day, catching a late afternoon lunch at the Blue Gator in Dunnellon, lunch on the water of the Withlacoochee River.  Very nice.

Polo Match
Interior Accommodations
We arrived at The Villages for our "Life Style Preview", and to our surprise was directed to a very nice upgrade accommodations.  The week was a blast, spending time with many Village friends.  Golfed two championships courses and two executive courses.  Assigned a recommended sales rep and got the opportunity to view numerous properties.  As most know, we purchased a three bedroom home and plan on moving our residency to Florida and RV the north in the summer.  The Villages is a "Hoot" and lends itself well with our lifestyle.  Saw our first Polo match and got to "stomp" the horse divots thanks to the Henslers.

Back to the coach, making plans to depart North.  One more trip into The Villages with Meier's and friends before our departure.

March 31, 2011

WOW!!  March is gone!   Was a great month and had a lot of fun.  Spent St. Patty's day in Auburndale visiting friends Mike and Ceil Murphy.  Played golf and had a great corn beef and cabbage dinner at the club.  They showed us a new gator family on the golf course, ma ma with several babies, must have been at least 10 little ones, stay clear.

Villages friends, Jorgensen's, Meier's and Henseler's invited us to join them to a performance of the "Wisconsin Singers" at the Village theater. They were great. Closed the evening with dinner at Little Joes Italian.  Had great pizza.

Shari & Friend Donna

Visited Shari's good friend Donna Garrett in Mulberry, Fl,  Imperial Lake complex.  Went to dinner at her favorite place, Texas Cattle Company in Lakeland, always good.  Stayed over and enjoyed the complex's annual picnic on Sat.  Great food with live music.  The next day we played golf and enjoyed pizza dinner with one of Donna's acquaintance, a 97 year old gentlemen who still plays golf three times a week. Awesome!

Cardinal "Rumble"
Mega Yacht Boat Show
We then headed to daughter Lisa in Palm Beach Gardens for a second visit this winter.  Bill & Lisa happy to see us again.  They surprised us with tickets to a St, Louis Cardinal spring training game against the Washington Nationals.  It was a beautiful day and Bill arranged for box seats. Had a great stadium dog lunch.  Game was fun, but Cardinals lost.  However, after a wild pitch hitting a batter, a rumble followed with both dug outs on the field.  A little excitement!  The next day we treated them to tickets to the West Palm Beach International boat show!  Wow!  Mega yachts, some selling for over 24 Million Dollars.  Awesome!  Had a fun day looking and going through vendor booths.  Closing the day by Lisa treating us to a wonderful Mexican dinner.
Madoff Repo West Palm Beach

Shari West Palm Beach Trail
Next day Lisa had to work so we went over to West Palm Beach to walk a really nice trail along the Intercostal Waterway.  Beautiful day and gorgeous homes.  Walked past a Bernnie Madoff repo now being remodeled.  Got an opportunity to talk with a couple of workers.  Then took Shari down to "Worth Ave", the high rent shopping street of West Palm Beach.  She behaved herself!!
Worth Street

We then went up to the PGA Golf Training facility in Port St. Lucie to meet with grand daughter Mc Kenzie and dad Don.  Prearranged to drive them to Orlando to catch a ride back to Wisconsin with the Paul grandparents.  Had a great lunch, tour of the grounds, and a tour of the PGA Museum.  Really nice.  Mc Kenzie had a great camp with her professional coaches, and told she shot a very strong 72 par.  Wow!

Back to our RV park, we met with friends John & Glenda Callender, getting ready to head back home to Indiana.  So we booked a nice dinner at Harry's in Ocala.  Everyone happy with meal and service, so a nice send off.  Lot's of people in the park starting to pack up for trip north.  We are here till April 30th, but we did book a week in The Villages for their "Life Style Preview" program from 4/15-22.  So we will have a fun week in The Villages.

Last couple of days much needed rain here in Florida. Some weather severe.  So we took in a movie.  "The Lincoln Lawyer",  Was great and can recommend.

March 12, 2011

It's been a very busy but fun period here in Florida.  Weather has really turned to sunny Florida type, and we have not missed a beat in taking advantage of it.  Visits by Wisconsin and Florida friends has really been enjoyable.

Paul & Patty Meier finally made it south from Menasha, planning a two month stay in the Villages.  They stopped by the park for a quick tour and grilled burgers.  About the same time Ceil and Mike Murphy were beginning their "snowbird" trip and stopped by for a quick lunch.  Great to see them.
4000 yrs of shells
Crowes / Kimes Cedar Key
John & Jane Crowe invited us for a visit to their condo in Cedar Key for a couple of days.  Beautiful spot.  Shortly after arriving Bob was in the kayak, exploring the bayou.  Fun!  John made an awesome supper, and treated us to his nightly "clam appetizers".  Good!   Enjoyed the area, treating us to a park tour of "Shell Point Mounds".  A very historic site going back 4000 years whereby natives built over 3500 years huge mounds of clam & oyster shells.  Incredible!!  Second evening treated to incredible dinning experience with a little live  smoked ribs on the waterfront of Cedar Key.

Jess & Doris Lionberg Silver River
Monkeys Silver River
Shortly after leaving Cedar Key, Crowe's put together a group road trip including us, Meiers, and Henslers to visit the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park.  A real life story of a Wisconsin based author living in remote Florida in the 1930's and writing the Pulitzer Prize Winning book "The Yearling".   After the tour of her homestead, arrangements were made to dine at the Yearling Restaurant, with southern type hospitality and a little "Louisianan" music. Good and Fun!!

Happy Hour Kime Coach
Yearling Restaurant Entertainment
Our river trip adventures continue, joining park friends John & Glenda Callender, and a special visit from our Illinois friends Jess & Doris Lionberg's.  Yes, in both cases we saw the Monkeys.  Yes, wild monkeys along the river bank and anxious to be feed.  We also saw numerous gators, turtles, birds, otters and this last time a manatee.  How the manatee got this far upstream is beyond all of us.  Great river trips!
Clint Black Concert

John & Glenda Callender
Silver Spring Park entertainment continues and this last concert was country singer Clint Black.  He put on a great concert.  Dinner at the Elks club after, a very nice club house.

Took a second trip to the Butterfly Rain Forest in Ocala.  Invited Callenders to join us.  It is probably the best display in the world.  Live butterfly's released in a very authentic rain forest environment.  Butterflies everywhere, landing on your head, shoulders, etc.  Every type of butterfly you can imagine from all over the world.  Our road trip back included a quick stop at Orange Lake to view a couple of Air Boats.  Then a quick cruise by John Trovolata's home called the "Jumbo Air" where he houses his 707 jet.  Taxis right up to his house.  Tough!!
Butterfly Rainforest

Ended the week with a visit to the Meier's in the Villages.  Paul gave Bob a "whirlwind golf cart tour" of most of the Villages complex and golf courses, while the girls did their girl thing "shopping".  Ended the day with a beautiful grilled steak dinner.  Good Friends!!

Saturday Silver Spring Park Concert - "The Charlie Daniels Band"

February 20, 2011

Wow!!  What about those Packers.  Had a great Super Bowl party at the Hensler's home in the Villages.   Fun watching the game and celebrating after.

Weather in Florida finally turned for the better.  After several weeks of cold and rain, we have now hit a period of sunny skies and temps in the 70's.  Nice!  Friends Bill & Judy Hesser stopped by en-route to New Port Richy and returned for a day of golf and dinner.

Gayhart Condo Complex
Planned a day of kayaking with Gary Jorgesen and the girls go shopping, but weather did not cooperate, so enjoyed a new cribbage board game and fish dinner out.  Enjoyed their visit and fun game.

Art Festival
Invited to Naples to spend a few days with friends Wayne and Shawnee Gayhart, celebrating Valentines day together.  Booked a nice luncheon boat cruise out of Fort Myers.  Beautiful day, great food, and a nice 4 hour boat cruise, dolphins running along with the boat.   Also spent a day at a very nice Art Festival in Coconut Point.  They gave us a great tour of their condo.  A really nice walkway to the water.  We also took in the Manatee Park in Fort Myers.
Gayhart Condo Path

Manatee Park
Shari and I did a "dingy" cruise downstream on the Ocklawaha River, about 8 miles one way.  Just floating, Bob Fishing, not paying attention to where we were going.  Suddenly bumped shore and startled a very large gator.  Scared the "BaGeebees" out of Shari.  Bob did not see, but Shari said the largest gator she ever saw.  Fish Story??  Anyway, fortunate for us, no teeth on the tubes of the dingy, or would have been a very short float.
Boat Cruise

Gator with Packer Hat
Saw Rodney Atkins at the Sliver Springs Concert.  Was a beautiful day, so was a sizable crowd.  Music ok with some of his hit songs, but also introduced some pretty hard rock not to our liking.

Pojchoka Dinner
Jeanette on Tee
Got invited to visit friends Ken & Jeanette Pojchoka in Daytona Beach Shores.   They have a very nice condo there, right on the beach with a beautiful view of both the ocean and the inter-costal water way.  They arranged for a golf tee time at the Crane Lakes Golf Club in Port Orange.  Pretty course with lots of water making it a challenging par 66 course.  Fun Time!!  After golf,  a nice happy hour at their place and then fish out.  A great visit.  Back to the park, Bob continues to Golf of Thursday's with a group of guys, now up to three foursomes.  Shari involved with a craft group on Tuesdays.

Theater Gang
Orange Blossom Opry
Friends from the Villages invited us to join them for dinner out and then a show at the Orange Blossom Opry in Weirsdale.  Five couples and great seats.  Shows on Fridays and Saturdays, with headliners on Saturdays and the local cast on Fridays.  We went on Friday, and the cast was great!!  Primarily a country music theme, but mixed in lots more.  Great talent!

On Sunday we got invited for the Packers / Bears playoff game party.  Casey's and Jorgensen's played hosts with the guys watching at Jorgensens and the gals at Casey's.  Six couples, so worked out well.  After the game all joined at Casey's for dinner.  What a great game!!!  Super bowl here we come!!
Golf Casey's / Jorgensen's

On Monday we joined Casey's and Jorgensen's for golf at Baseline Golf Course in Ocala.  A very pretty executive par 64 course.  Guys played ahead of the girls and even though the course was full, play went fast.  Finished day with happy hour at our coach and then a great dinner at Harry's in Ocala.  Fun to be with such nice people.

At the Silver Springs park we once again took advantage of their entertainment program.  This time was Roy Clark and his band.  Weather was sunny, a little cool breeze, but nice.   Roy of course aging, but put on a great show and brought some really nice young talent with him.

Had a nice surprise call and visit from friends Wayne and Shawnee Gayhart stopping for a couple hour visit enroute from Oshkosh to their condo rental in Naples.  Showed them the Ocala Square downtown and a quick lunch at O'Malley's Alley.  Nice to see them.  In spite of all our activity, still getting time to walk and read.  Bob finishing Stieg Larsson's, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", and John Grisham's, "The Rainmaker".  Shari finished her cousin Tom Sholes adventure book "The Green Witch", which she really enjoyed.
